# A support page that turns into your machine’s page

Type the serial off the nameplate and the site works out which machine it is — batch, firmware, where it was sold — then the manuals, the parts list, the warranty and the ticket all become that machine’s, instead of the whole range’s.

## The problem

An exporter of industrial laser cutters. Once a machine is out of the door, the support page on the website is a dropdown: pick your model, download the manual. Except the range has been through four firmware revisions and two cabinet layouts in three years, so the manual a customer downloads by model is usually not the one on his machine. He phones instead. The first thing service says is “read me the serial off the nameplate”, and the second is “give me a minute to find the batch”. Ten minutes of every call goes there. The warranty is worse: the machine has been running for two years and was never registered, so when something fails, both sides argue from memory and it gets settled on goodwill.

## What we built

The serial becomes the way in. The customer types it once and the site knows which machine, which batch, which firmware, which sales region — and then **the same support page becomes that machine’s page**: the manual is labelled with the firmware actually on it, the installation drawing is that cabinet layout, the parts list only shows what will fit, the service date is counted from that commissioning date. Registering the warranty happens on the way past: for the customer it is two years of cover and a record they can look up; for the factory it is a dated entry with the dealer and the commissioning confirmation on it. In the demo we check a fake serial first, deliberately — a verifier that says “authentic” to everything is not a verifier.

## Try it yourself

- The demo checks a fake serial by itself. It has to go red once before the green means anything.
- Press “Valid sample” in the panel and watch the whole page behind it change owner.
- Read the small line under each of the four documents — firmware revision, cabinet batch, build date. Every one of them is different now.
- Finish the registration. The warranty card turns green and a service date and a parts count grow underneath it.

## Who this suits

Any business that has to look after what it sold for years afterwards: machinery, machine tools, instruments, vehicles, large appliances, installed systems. The test is simple — if the first thing your service desk says on the phone is “read me the serial number”, this is what moving that sentence into the website looks like.
